Guided hikes and private tours · Cape Town

Guided Table Mountain hikes and private tours in Cape Town. Hike Table Mountain with the people who made it safer.

We started in 2018 to take the mountain back from crime. Today our guides and drivers take you up its trails and around the Cape, and part of every booking keeps those trails safe.

  • Visiting Cape Town? Guided hikes, day tours and airport transfers.
  • Living here? Join a community hike, a clean-up or a patrol.

Why us

We started on the mountain, not in an office.

In January 2018, nine hikers were attacked on the Kalk Bay mountains. Taahir Osman helped carry them to the ambulances and found they were friends of his. The next day he walked the trail again with the police, and soon after ran the first volunteer safety patrol.

That patrol became a movement of hikers, runners and cyclists, and TBOM is a stakeholder in Table Mountain National Park. Our guided hikes and tours grew out of it.

  • Led by the people who patrol these trails, not a booking desk.
  • A PSIRA-registered team, and a professional driving permit for every driver.
  • Private groups, led at the pace of the slowest person, with a leader and a sweeper.
  • Your booking gives back, funding patrols, clean-ups and guide bursaries.

Questions

Good to know

Who are Take Back Our Mountains?

A Cape Town non-profit started in 2018 by Taahir Osman to fight crime on Table Mountain. We run safety patrols, clean-ups and community hikes, and TBOM Tourism, our tourism division, runs guided hikes, private tours and airport transfers.

Is it safe to hike Table Mountain?

Most visits go without trouble, but incidents do happen on the mountain. Hiking in a group with a qualified guide is the safest way to do it, which is exactly what we offer. Our safety guide has the rest of our advice.

What is included in a guided hike?

All rates include your guide, entry and ticket fees, and transport. Pick-ups 35 to 60 km from your hotel cost an extra R1 000. All rates are per person.

How many people can join a hike?

Our private hikes and tours are priced for groups of 1 to 8. The bigger your group, the less each person pays.

How do I book?

Send us a WhatsApp on 073 624 4287 with your date, how many of you there are and where you are staying. The button types the message for you. We confirm the details and send payment instructions.

Do I pay a deposit?

For bookings more than 30 days ahead, a 15% non-refundable deposit secures your date, with the balance due 48 hours before. Bookings within 30 days are paid in full when you book.

Where does the money go?

A portion of every tour goes back into the non-profit: safety patrols, clean-ups, youth outreach and bursaries for young people training to become guides.

Tell us where you want to go. We’ll take you there safely.

Send us a WhatsApp with your date, how many of you there are and where you are staying, and we’ll come back to you with what happens next. Prefer email? info@takebackourmountains.org
